“For me, Zelda was about having the courage to go and explore and that it was ok to be scared but it provides opportunity to be courageous.
Zelda was also about what it was like to be alone.”

A giant hand-stitched map of the Zelda overworld made in 2002.
I didn’t have a PS3 until very recently and Flower was the first platform-specific title I wanted to play.

What I appreciated most was the quiet of the game. There is no textual or vocal component to get in the way of the experience. You proceed to through the game at your own pace, without the forced explicit narratives or tutorials to pull you out of the experience.
Download, Playstation 3, Playstation store. Also available from Amazon, $9.99

The best of video games are interactive experiences that can not be captured in any other medium.
So there’s something fundamentally futile about arguing about whether video games are art using text and pictures and video. The best of video game writing and new games journalism may express something about a game beautifully, but the most important aspect of any video game is the experience of playing it.
The simulated experiences that become real through technology and imagination are the essence of what makes video games unique among media forms.
This site is about those games, and will strive to be unobtrusive about it as possible, advocating and exposing without the need for verbosity.
